Tortuguero can be translated as Land of Turtles and is a village north from Puerto Viejo. It is absolutely teaming with an amazing amount of birds, turtles, crocodiles, monkeys, sloths, poison dart frogs and more.
This is an incredible wildlife experience! Hence why it is the third most visited national park in Costa Rica. For much of the year you can experience turtles visiting the shores to lay their eggs, a magical renewal of life first-hand. 
Tortuguero (meaning turtle hunter) was transformed into one of the worlds first Turtle sanctuary over 50 years ago. It is cut off from the world by water and lush jungle, no roads in or out, so just getting there is an adventure in itself.
You will enter Tortuguero via land and boat, spend one night in a hotel. The following morning you will ggo on a private canal boat tour in the national park with a guide. Later we take you back the way you came or on to your next destination.
